WHO ARE WE?

Mediation Border Counties is a voluntary service been delivered by  Cavan Family Resource Centre Ltd. 

The service empowers people to manage their own problems and uses only trained mediators who are certified and accredited by the Mediation Institute of Ireland. The MII is the professional association for mediators in Ireland. Our mediators are bound by the MII Code of Ethics and are committed to delivering a high standard service. Our service is free, neutral and confidential.

WHAT IS MEDIATION?

Mediation is a voluntary process in which parties to a dispute meet with trained mediators who are neutral and impartial. The parties are empowered to create their own solutions and to work towards a win-win conclusion. Confidentiality is of the essence. Mediation is an alternative to the courts and ongoing conflict.

  • It is a compassionate and sensitive way of settling disputes
  • The client is fully involved in the process
  • No decision is imposed. Your agreement is required
  • It is a proven successful alternative to court proceedings

WHO CAN AVAIL OF MEDIATION?

Anyone who is suffering from a conflict or dispute in any of the following areas:

  • Community/neighbourhood (when conflict arises over damage to property, noise levels etc.)
  • Peace building (relating to issues between groups or individuals that may stem from the recent conflict or issues of diversity)
  • Family
  • Workplace
  • Elder mediation

WHAT IS THE COST? 

At present CFRC is not in receipt of funding to deliver this service so we request the following donation:

 €40.00 for couple per session – €20.00 per person 

€20.00 is the minimum per session per couple on social welfare – €10.00 each.  Written proof must be provided.

Please Note because this is a voluntary service,  at times there is a waitlist of approx 12 – 16 weeks.

The mediation service is available throughout the counties of Cavan, Monaghan and Leitrim

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Typically the process takes a number of meetings along the following lines:

  • Initial meetings with both parties separately
  • Joint meeting with parties
  • Ground rules agreed
  • Both sides of the story told
  • Issues identified
  • Solutions arrived at by parties
  • Agreement written and signed.

Where can you access our service?

Our aim is to provide our services at easily accessible agreed venues. In order to minimise costs we will be using various venues across the region.
